Port Construction & Expansion
QUALSURV MARINE CONSULTING - Port Construction and Expansion
For as long as humans have taken to the seas, maritime ports have played a vital role in the transportation of goods for trading between countries. Historically, “natural ports” were available in bays and estuaries. However, gradually, more work had to be done to keep these ports accessible, due to sedimentation, changing waterway routes, dynamic coastlines and, more recently, the use of larger shipping vessels.

Port Construction and Expansion plays a crucial role in enhancing a region’s economic growth, trade efficiency, and connectivity. A new port infrastructure can pave the way for implementing new equipment, and technology, and ultimately helps ensure better connectivity.
Port Construction and Expansion projects are often large-scale long-term operations, often starting with dredging to facilitate the entry and berthing of larger vessels, perhaps followed by piling (from shore or floating barges) after which the rest of the port (e.g. quay, warehouses, roads etc.) is constructed.
QUALSURV’s experience in the Port Construction and Expansion ranges from the development of small harbours and marinas to the construction of an artificial island for use as a large container terminal in Costa Rica and the construction of a $7 billion port in Iraq.
